A suspension of 2-((4-(hydroxymethyl)-7-methyl-1-tosyl-1H-indol-5-yl)methyl)isoindoline-1,3-dione (180 mg, 0.38 mmol) and MnO2 (165 mg, 1.9 mmol) in toluene (20 mL) was stirred at 80° C. for 11 h. The reaction mixture was cooled to room temperature. The reaction mixture was filtered off through Celite®. The Celite® cake was washed with CH2Cl2. The combined filtrate was concentrated to give the title compound, with no need of further purification. MS (ESI+) m/z 473.1 (M+H).
