Reaction Steps

To 1-tosyl-1H-indol-4-amine (9.1 g, 31.8 mmol) in DMF (300 mL) at −20° C. was added NBS (5.60 g, 31.5 mmol) and the mixture was stirred at −20° C. After 5 minutes the reaction was quenched with sat. aq. NaHCO3, then with sat. sodium thiosulfate, extracted with EtOAc (three times), dried over MgSO4, filtered and concentrated. The product was purified by flash chromatography (0-100% EtOAc in heptanes) to provide the title compound. MS (ESI+) m/z 364.9, 366.9 (M+H).
