Reaction Steps

To a solution of 2,2-dimethyl-2H-pyrano[2,3-b]pyridine-6-carbaldehyde 18 (23 mg, 0.121 mmol) in MeOH (1 mL) was added cyclohexylamine (0.014 mL, 0.121 mmol), NaCNBH3 (15 mg, 0.242 mmol) and Zinc chloride (33 mg, 0.242 mmol) and stirred overnight. The solvent was removed by rotary evaporation and the residue dissolved in EtOAc and washed with 1M NaOH, water and brine, dried over MgSO4 and concentrated in vacuo. The product was used in the next step without further purification.
