A solution of (E)-2-[[3-(3,4-dimethoxyphenyl)-1-oxo-2-propenyl]amino]benzoic acid (0.5 g, 1.5 mmol) in acetic anhydride (3 mL) was heated to reflux and stirred for 3 h. The reaction was cooled to rt and the resulting suspension was diluted with water.
