Methanolic ammonia (20 ml) was added to ethyl 2-(pyridin-4-yl)propanoate (140 mg, 0.78 mmol) in a steel bomb. The reaction mixture was heated to 70° C. for 18 h, then the temperature of the reaction was brought down to room temperature and the volatiles were evaporated. The reaction mixture was washed with n-pentane to afford 45 mg (38.8%) of 2-(pyridin-4-yl)propanamide as an orange color solid.
