Ammonia gas was passed into a solution of tert-butyl (1S,3R)-3-(methoxycarbonyl)cyclopentylcarbamate (2.0 g, 8.2 mmol) in MeOH (20 ml) at −78° C. in a steal bomb. The reaction mixture was slowly warmed to room temperature, heated to 80° C. and stirred further for 48 h. The reaction mixture was cooled to room temperature and concentrated to afford 1.6 g (85.5%) of tert-butyl (1S,3R)-3-carbamoylcyclopentylcarbamate as brownish solid.
