Into a 50-mL round-bottom flask purged and maintained with an inert atmosphere of nitrogen, was placed [5-(2,4-dimethylphenyl)-3-(trifluoromethyl)-1,2-thiazol-4-yl]methanol (100 mg, 0.35 mmol, 1.00 equiv), tol (3 mL), ethyl 3-(4-hydroxy-2,3-dimethylphenyl)propanoate (154 mg, 0.69 mmol, 1.99 equiv), ADDP (174 mg, 0.70 mmol, 2.00 equiv), n-Bu3P (140 mg, 0.69 mmol, 1.99 equiv). The resulting solution was stirred overnight at 60° C. The resulting mixture was concentrated under vacuum. The residue was applied onto a TLC plate with ethyl acetate/petroleum ether (1/5). This resulted in 90 mg (crude) of ethyl 3-(4-[[5-(2,4-dimethylphenyl)-3-(trifluoromethyl)-1,2-thiazol-4-yl]methoxy]-2,3-dimethylphenyl) propanoate as colorless oil.
