Procedure
To a solution of 4-(4-ethylphenyl)thiophene-3-carbaldehyde (0.44 g, 2.03 mmol) in MeOH (5 mL) was added sodium borohydride (144 mg, 3.812 mmol) under argon at 0° C. The resulting mixture was stirred at room temperature for 2 h. The residue was extracted with EtOAc, dried over Na2SO4 and purification was conducted using CombiFlash (eluent: 10% EtOAc in heptane to 20% to 40) to afford the title product as a white solid (0.43 g, 97% yield).
