A mixture of methyl 6-(benzenesulphonylmethyl)-3-bromo-2-methoxybenzoate (Intermediate 65, 1.0 g), 1-ethoxyvinyl tributyl stannane (0.9 ml), tetrakis-(triphenylphosphine) palladium (0.29 g) and lithium chloride (1.0 g) in dioxane (15 ml) was stirred and heated in the microwave at 150° C. for 15 minutes. The solution was filtered and the filtrate was diluted with 1M hydrochloric acid and then stirred at room temperature for 5 hours. The resultant mixture was extracted with DCM, dried (MgSO4) and filtered. The filtrate was evaporated to dryness and the residue was purified by chromatography on silica, eluting with a mixture of ethyl acetate and cyclohexane with a gradient of 0-75% to give methyl 3-acetyl-6-(benzenesulphonylmethyl)-2-methoxybenzoate (0.965 g) as an oil.
