The product of step C was converted to the methyl ether derivative following the procedure of Example 54, step B. Purification by flash column chromatography (SiO2, 75:25 hexane/ethyl acetate) provided tert-butyl 8-((1-(ethoxycarbonyl)-1H-indol-5-yl)sulfonyl)-6-methoxy-3,4-dihydrobenzofuro[3,2-c]pyridine-2(1H)-carboxylate (25 mg, 82%) as a colorless oil: 1H NMR (CDCl3, 300 MHz) δ 8.30 (d, J=8.7 Hz, 1H), 8.23 (d, J=1.8 Hz, 1H), 7.88 (dd, J=8.7, 1.8 Hz, 1H), 7.73 (d, J=3.6 Hz, 2H), 7.35 (s, 1H), 6.69 (d, J=3.6 Hz, 1H), 4.60-4.45 (m, 4H), 4.03 (s, 3H), 3.88-3.74 (m, 2H), 2.95-2.75 (m, 2H), 1.50 (s, 9H), 1.47 (t, J=7.2 Hz, 3H).
