iso-Propylchloroformate (55 mmol) and concentrated NaOH (6.0 mL; 10 M) were added, along with 10 mL of water, to a solution of 3-benzyl-3,7-diazabicyclo[3.3.1]nonane (from step (ii) above; 10.8 g; 50 mmol) in CH2Cl2 (50 mL). The reaction mixture was stirred for 3 h and the phases separated. The organic phase was washed with H2O and brine, dried and concentrated to give the sub-title compound in 95% yield.
