600 mg (1.3 mmol) of 1-(2-ethylquinolin-5-ylimino)-4-(5-fluoro-2-methoxyphenyl)-4-methyl-2-(trifluoromethyl)pentan-2-ol in 5.0 ml of methanol is mixed at 0° C. with 197 mg (5.2 mmol) of sodium borohydride. After 2 hours at room temperature, water is added, and methanol is removed in a vacuum. The aqueous phase is extracted with dichloromethane, the combined organic phases are dried on sodium sulfate, and the solvent is removed in a vacuum. After purification on silica gel with hexane-ethyl acetate (0-100%), 400 mg (66% of theory) of the product is obtained.
