Reaction Steps

Moxifloxacin base 50.0 g was stirred in 200.0 ml methanol for 10-15 minutes at 25-3-° C. The pH was adjusted to 1.0-2.0 using methanolic hydrochloric acid. The reaction mass was chilled to 0-5° C. and maintained for 1 hour. The solids were filtered and dried under vacuum at 85-90° C. to yield 52.5 g (105%) of moxifloxacin hydrochloride.
