Reaction Steps
The methyl 4-[(4-methoxyphenyl)sulfonyl]-thiazepine-5-carboxylate (1 g, 2.90 mmol) in methanol (50 mL) is stirred at room temperature and the potassium hydroxide, hydroxyl amine solution (Fieser & Fieser Vol 1 ) is added (5 equiv). The resulting solution is stirred at room temperature for 6 h. The reaction mixture is acidified with 1N HCl and then extracted with dichloromethane. The organic extracts were dried (Na2SO4) and concentrated to a solid under reduced pressure. The solid is recrystallized from CH3CN/H2O to provide a white powder. MS (ESI): 347 (M+H+), 364 (M+NH4+).
