Reaction Steps

The isopropenyl carbonate from step 88a (7.5 g, 33.6 mmol) was dissolved in a mixture of ethyl ether (100 mL) and chloroform (100 mL). The mixture was cooled to 0° C. and then bubbled with HCl gas. After standing at room temperature for 16 hours the mixture was purged with nitrogen to remove the excess HCl, and the solvent was evaporated to give the title compound (8.0 g, 92%): 1H NMR (CDCl3, 300 MHz) δ2.11 (s, 6H), 7.39-7.44 (m, 2H), 8.27-8.32 (m, 2H).
