2,4-Dichloroquinoline (0.500 g, 2.525 mmol), 2-hydroxyphenylboronic acid (0.332 g, 2.405 mmol), sodium carbonate (0.510 g, 4.810 mmol) and Pd(PPh3)4 (0.139 g, 120 mmol) were added to a degassed mixture of toluene (5 mL) and water (2 mL), and the mixture was heated for 15 hours. After cooling, water (100 mL) was added and the aqueous layer was extracted with ethyl acetate (2×100 mL). The organic layers were combined, washed with brine (50 mL), dried (MgSO4), and concentrated. The crude product was purified by silica gel chromatography (dichloromethane) to give the title compound (0.322 g, 50%).
