Procedure
A mixture of 2,5-difluorobenzothiohydrazide (0.500 g 2.66 mmol) and tert-butyl methoxy(3-oxo-3-phenylpropyl)carbamate (1.11 g, 3.99 mmol) was stirred together in ethanol (5 mL) for 30 hours. The reaction mixture was concentrated under reduced pressure, and the residue was chromatographed (20% ethyl acetate in hexanes) to provide die product (0.650 g, 1.45 mmol) that was used in the next step without further purification.
