Procedure
To a solution of 6-(1,1-dioxo-1λ6-thiomorpholin-4-yl)-nicotinic acid methyl ester (156 mg, 0.577 mmol) in methanol (10 mL) was added aqueous KOH (3M, 1.2 mL, 3.463 mmol) and the mixture was heated at 70° C. for 12 h. The methanol was evaporated, water was added and the mixture acidified to pH=6 with 2N HCl. The water was evaporated and the residue dried in high vacuum to give 6-(1,1-dioxo-1λ6-thiomorpholin-4-yl)-nicotinic acid which was used crude for the next step.
