To a solution of 4-(4-azidophenyl)thiazol-2-amine (1.18 g, 5.43 mmol) in DMF (18 mL) at 0° C. was added 1-chloropyrrolidine-2,5-dione (0.746 g, 5.59 mmol). The reaction mixture was warmed to room temperature and stirred for 2 h. The reaction mixture was poured into water (100 mL). The precipitate that formed was collected by filtration, washed with water, and dried under high vacuum to give 4-(4-azidophenyl)-5-chlorothiazol-2-amine.
