Procedure
Compound 16.4 (1.5 g, 1.54 mmol) was dissolved in a mixture of 8 mL CH2Cl2 and 8 mL methanol, and treated with formic acid 16 mL. When the reaction was completed, 20 mL n-butanol was added to quench the reaction. The mixture was evaporated to dryness under reduced pressure and the byproducts were removed by washing the residue with hexane 3×200 mL. Compound 16.5 (840 mg, 92% yield) was obtained.
