Pd/C (0.1 g) was added to 2,6-dimethoxy-2′-methyl-3-nitrobiphenyl (0.2 g, 0.73 mmol) in methanol (20 ml), and under 1 atm of H2, the mixture was heated at 50° C. for 2 h. Filtration and concentration gave 2,6-dimethoxy-2′-methylbiphenyl-3-ylamine (0.14 g) as a colorless oil, which was directly reacted further.
