(S)-4-oxiranylmethyl-morpholine 78b (5.52 g, 38.6 mmol) was added slowly with 395 ml of aqueous ammonia (25%, 5.8 mol) in an ice-water bath while maintaining the temperature below 0° C. Upon the completion of the addition, the reaction mixture was naturally warmed to room temperature, and stirred for another 18 hours. After thin lay chromatography showed the disappearance of starting materials, the reaction was stopped. The reaction solution was concentrated under reduced pressure to remove the reaction solvent and to obtain the title compound (R)-1-Amino-3-morpholin-4-yl-propan-2-ol 78c (6.1 g, yield 99%) as a light yellow oil.
