A solution of 2-chloro-3-hydrazinylpyrazine hydrochloride (3.32 g, 18.34 mmol) in anhydrous chloroform was treated with O-ethyl carbonisothiocyanatidate (1.9 mL, 16.11 mmol) at room temperature. Anhydrous methanol (10 mL) was added to the reaction mixture which was then concentrated under reduced pressure to yield ethyl 2-(3-chloropyrazin-2-yl)hydrazinecarbonothioylcarbamate (5.37 g) as an orange solid.
