To a solution of 15 mg (0.042 mmol) of 1-methylsulfanylmethyl-4-(2-methyl-4-m-tolylethynyl-imidazol-1-yl)-1H-pyridin-2-one in 0.6 ml of methanol were added 53 mg (0.09 mmol) of potassium peroxymonosulfate (Oxone). The mixture was then stirred for 3 h at 40° C. The solution was evaporated to dryness and worked up with methylene chloride/water. The crude material was purified by flash chromatography (SiO2, gradient ethyl acetate to ethyl acetate:methanol 90:10 v/v) to yield 12 mg of the title compound as a white solid, MS: 382.2 (M+H+).
