3,5-Dimethoxytoluene (2.93 mL, 20 mmol) and 4-phenylbutylbromide (4.13 mL, 1.2 mmol) were reacted as described under General Procedure H and the crude product was purified by flash chromatography (silica-gel, petroleum ether/EtOAc 200:1) to afford the product as a clear oil (4.6 g, 81%). 1H NMR (300 MHz, CDCl3) δ 7.13-7.22 (m, 5H), 6.34 (s, 2H), 3.76 (s, 6H), 2.60-2.64 (m, 4H), 2.31 (s, 3H), 1.53-1.67 (m, 4H).
