Procedure
A 500 mL round-bottomed flask was charged with 1H-pyrazole-3-carboxylic acid 59 (5.0 g, 45 mmol), 100 mL of MeOH, and 10 drops of concentrated sulfuric acid. This mixture was heated to reflux and heating was continued for 12 h. After cooling to room temperature, the solvent was removed and the residue was dissolved in EtOAc and saturated aqueous NaHCO3. The layers were separated and the organic layer was dried and concentrated to give methyl 1H-pyrazole-3-carboxylate 60.
