A 250 mL round-bottomed flask was charged with (5-methoxy-1-(4-(trifluoromethyl)phenyl)-1H-pyrazol-3-yl)methanol 73 (4.60 g, 16.9 mmol) and 50 mL of CH2Cl2. To this solution was added Dess-Martin periodinane (8.96 g, 21.1 mmol) and the mixture was stirred at room temperature for 1.5 h. The reaction mixture was quenched with saturated aqueous Na2S2O3, extracted with CH2Cl2, dried, and concentrated. Purification by via column chromatography on silica gel (0% to 20% EtOAc in hexanes) to give 5-methoxy-1-(4-(trifluoromethyl)phenyl)-1H-pyrazole-3-carbaldehyde 74.
