Procedure

Into a 10 liter four-necked separable flask equipped with a thermometer, a stirrer, an inlet for nitrogen gas and a reflux condenser, 64.5 g (0.15 moles) of 3,3′-dibromo-1,1′-biadamantane and 1032 g (10.95 moles) of phenol were placed, and the resultant mixture was heated under the refluxing condition at 155° C. for 30 minutes. After the mixture was cooled at the room temperature, 4.3 liters of methanol was added, and the obtained mixture was heated under the refluxing condition at 55° C. for 10 minutes. The formed precipitates were separated by filtration, washed with a flow of methanol and dried at 60° C. under a reduced pressure for 24 hours, and 64.2 g of the product was obtained (the yield: 93.7%).
