Into a 300 ml egg plant-shaped flask, 87.3 g (779 mmole) of 3-fluorophenol, 83.8 g (389 mmole) of 1-bromoadamantane, 60 ml of toluene and a stirrer rod were placed, and the resultant mixture was stirred at 140° C. for 24 hours under the stream of nitrogen gas. The reaction fluid was left standing at the room temperature, and the formed solid substance was recovered by filtration. The recovered solid substance was washed with cold toluene and dried at 60° C. under a reduced pressure, and 63.2 g of 4-(1-admantyl)-3-fluorophenol was obtained.
