Procedure
Compound 2 (5.88 g, 0.012 mol) was stirred in dichloromethane (150 mL) with 40% aqueous dimethylamine (10 mL) and water (25 mL) for 24 h. The solution was diluted with dichloromethane (50 mL) and washed with water (1×100 mL), 1 M aqueous sodium hydroxide (1×100 mL), and saturated brine (1×100 mL). The organic phase was dried (MgSO4) and concentrated in vacuo to give 3 as a white solid (3 g, 68%).
