Reaction Steps
A solution of ethyl 2-(diethoxymethyl)thiazole-4-carboxylate (1.6 g) and 1 M HCl (12.3 ml) in acetone (100 ml) was heated under reflux for 5 h. After the solvent was removed by evaporation, the residue was diluted with AcOEt, neutralized with saturated NaHCO3 solution and extracted with EtOAc. The organic layer was separated, washed with water and brine successively, dried over MgSO4 and concentrated in vacuo. The residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography (hexane/EtOAc) to give the title compound (1.0 g) as an off-white solid.
