Reaction Steps
Methanesulfonyl chloride (0.39 ml, 4.99 mmol) was added dropwise to a stirred solution of methyl 6-hydroxyoctadecanoate (1.55 g, 4.94 mmol) and triethylamine (0.89 ml, 6.42 mmol) in dry dichloromethane (30 ml) at 0° C. The reaction mixture was warmed to room temperature after the addition, and stirred for 2 h. The reaction mixture was quenched with water, diluted with 50 ml of dichloromethane, and the organic layer was washed with water and brine solution, dried on anhydrous MgSO4, concentrated and evaporated under vacuum. This crude compound was combined with imidazole (0.67 g, 9.88 mmol) and heated at 80° C. for 16 h. Crude compound was purified on silica gel (2% methanol in dichloromethane) to obtain a light brown liquid (605 mg, 33.7%).
