1-(18-(benzyloxy)octadecan-9-yl)-1H-imidazole (1.5 g, 3.52 mmol) was dissolved in EtOH, then 10% Pd on carbon (200 mg) was added and the reaction mixture hydrogenated under hydrogen balloon at reflux for 2 days. The reaction was filtered off to remove Pd carbon, then the filtrate was concentrated. The crude product was purified by silica gel column (3% MeOH in DCM) to give 10-(1H-imidazol-1-yl)octadecan-1-ol as a gummy liquid (0.96 g, 81%).
