Procedure

NaOH (22 mg, 0.55 mmol, 4.00 equiv) was added to a solution of methyl 3-ethyl-2-phenylquinoxaline-6-carboxylate (40 mg, 0.14 mmol, 1.00 equiv) in CH3OH (20 mL), and the solution was allowed to react, with stifling, for 2 hrs at 50° C. The resulting mixture was concentrated under vacuum and combined with crude product from a previous batch prior to purification. The resulting mixture was purified by prep-HPLC, affording 11 mg (29%) of 3-ethyl-2-phenylquinoxaline-6-carboxylic acid as a white solid.
