Procedure
To stirred solution of 2-methyl-3-nitrobenzoic acid (50 g, 276 mmol) in conc. H2SO4 (200 mL), 1,3-dibromo-5,5-dimethyl-2,4-imidazolidinedione (43.4 g, 152 mmol) was added portionwise at room temperature. The mixture was stirred at room temperature for 5 h. and poured on ice cold water. The precipitate was filtered, washed with water and dried under vacuum giving the title compound (71 g, 99%).
