Procedure

To a stirred solution of 1.27 (44 mg, 0.10 mmol) in acetonitrile/water (1:1, 2 mL) was added Ceric ammonium nitrate (233 mg, 0.43 mmol) and the reaction was stirred for 1 hr. The reaction mixture was concentrated and purified by flash chromatography (10-20% MeOH in CH2Cl2) to afford (R)-4-((R)-3,3-difluoro-1-hydroxypropyl)pyrrolidin-2-one 1.28.
