Reaction Steps

To a solution of methyl N-(tert-butoxycarbonyl)-N-(2-cyanoethyl)-D-alaninate (1.5 g) in ethanol (80 mL) and chloroform (1.4 mL) was added platinum oxide (350 mg), and the reaction mixture was stirred over an atmosphere of hydrogen for 16 hr. The mixture was filtered through Celite, and the Celite washed with methanol and dichloromethane. The filtrate was concentrated to give methyl N-(3-aminopropyl)-N-(tert-butoxycarbonyl)-D-alaninate as an oily residue.
