Reaction Steps
N-(tert-butyl)-N-(2-cyanoethyl)-2-oxopropanamide obtained in Step A (440 mg) and platinum oxide (60 mg) were suspended in ethyl alcohol (40 mL) containing chloroform (0.3 mL) and mixed on a Parr shaker over an atmosphere of hydrogen at 40 psi for 16 h. The mixture was filtered, the catalyst was washed with methanol/dichloromethane (10:90) and the combined filtrate was evaporated and purified by Biotage® flash chromatography (silica gel, 5–10% methanol/dichloromethane) to yield the desired product.
