Reaction Steps
A solution of Ethyl 4-(4-(2-methoxybenzyloxy)phenyl)-4-oxobutyrate (Step B, 1.49 g, 4.3 mmol) in abs ethanol (20 ml) was treated with 1N NaOH (6 ml). The reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature for 2 hours and then acidified with 1 M HCl. The resulting white solid was filtered, washed with cold water and dried under vacuum to provide the title compound.
