Procedure
The intermediate 3-(1-ethyl-4,4,6-trimethyl-2-oxo-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-quinolin-7-yl)-5-fluoro-4-methoxy-benzaldehyde was prepared in a similar manner to example 7a using 7-bromo-1-ethyl-4,4,6-trimethyl-3,4-dihydro-1H-quinoline-2-one (example 2b) and 3-bromo-5-fluoro-4-methoxy-benzaldehyde. 12% yield. 1H-NMR (300 MHz, CDCl3): 1.23 (t, J=7.0 Hz, 3 H), 1.33 (s, 6 H), 2.13 (s, 3 H), 2.53 (s, 2 H), 3.91 (s, 3 H), 4.01 (q, J=7.0 Hz, 2 H), 6.83 (s, 1 H), 7.19 (s, 1 H), 7.50 (d, J=1.8 Hz, 1 H), 7.66 (dd, J1=11.7 Hz, J2=2.1 Hz, 1 H), 9.91 (s, 1 H).
