Reaction Steps
A solution of Oxone (538 mg, 0.88 mmol, 1.2 equiv) in water (3 mL) was added to a solution of 2-(methylthio)-4-(4-phenyl-1H-pyrazol-5-yl)pyrimidine (3-3, 196 mg, 0.73 mmol, 1 equiv) in methanol (50 mL), and the resulting mixture was stirred under ambient conditions for 18 hours. The reaction was concentrated and the residue was partitioned between ethyl acetate and saturated sodium bicarbonate solution. The organic layer was washed with brine, dried over magnesium sulfate and concentrated to give a mixture (3:2) of 2-(methylsulfinyl)-4-(4-phenyl-1H-pyrazol-5-yl)pyrimidine (3-4) and 2-(methylsulfonyl)-4-(4-phenyl-1H-pyrazol-5-yl)pyrimidine (3-5), respectively.
