A mixture of 2-(methylsulfinyl)-4-(4-phenyl-1H-pyrazol-5-yl)pyrimidine and 2-(methylsulfonyl)-4-(4-phenyl-1H-pyrazol-5-yl)pyrimidine (3-4, 3-5, 186 mg, 0.62 mg,) and 3,5-dimethylaniline (2 mL, excess) was heated at 90° C. for 24 hours. The reaction mixture was purified by flash chromatography. Elution with CH2Cl2 to 30% EtOAc/CH2Cl2 gave N-(3,5-dimethylphenyl)-4-(4-phenyl-1H-pyrazol-5-yl)pyrimidin-2-amine (3-6) as a pale yellow solid. 1H NMR (500 MHz, CDCl3) δ 8.26 (d, 1H, J=5 Hz), 7.66 (s, 1H), 7.38–7.44 (m, 5 H), 7.21 (br s, 2H), 7.04 (br s, 1H), 6.75 (br s, 1H), 6.71 (d, 1H, J=5 Hz), 2.34 (s, 6H).
