Procedure
A suspention of 3-amino-6-(1-isopropyl-6-oxo-1,6-dihydro-3-pyridyl)-5-(4-methoxyphenyl)-2-pyrazinecarboxylic acid in 1,2-dichlorobenzen (3 ml) was heated at 200° C. and stirred for 4 hours. This reaction mixture was cooled to room temperature. To this solution was added IPE and stirred at room temperature for 1 hour. The precipitate was collected by filtration and washed with IPE. The residual solid was placed on a column of silica-gel and eluted with CHCl3—MeOH (20:1). The eluent was evaporated and the residue was purified by recrystallization from EtOH—water to give 5-[5-amino-3-(4-methoxyphenyl)-2-pyrazinyl]-1-isopropyl-2(1H)-pyridone (88 mg) as a pale brown crystal.
