Procedure

Fluvastatin methyl ester (3.0 g) was dissolved in MeOH (15 ml) by heating to reflux. NaOH (0.29 g) was added and the clear solution was stirred at reflux for 30 min, then acetone (75 ml) was added. The solution was cooled to room temperature and stirred over night. The product was isolated by filtration under nitrogen, washed with acetone (35 ml) and dried at 50° C. in a vacuum oven for 21.5 h to obtain 1.34 g of fluvastatin sodium crystal Form LXV.
