Procedure

Fluvastatin methyl ester (10.0 g) was dissolved in acetone (150 ml) and a solution of NaOH (0.94 g) in MeOH (10 ml) was added. After 26.5 h, NaOH (0.47 g) was added and the mixture was stirred at room temperature over night. The product was isolated by filtration under nitrogen, washed with acetone (20 ml) and dried at 50° C. in a vacuum oven for 23 h to obtain 8.01 g of fluvastatin sodium crystal Form LXVII.
