Procedure

2-Chloro-4-iodoimidazole (431 mg) was suspensed in concentrated nitric acid (d. 1.38) (2.5 ml), under ice-cooling, concentrated sulfuric acid (2.5 ml) was added, and stirred at a room temperature for 6 hours. Then, the diposited matters were collected by filtration, and dried, there was obtained 2-chloro-5-iodo-4-nitroimidazole (348 mg, yield: 67.0%) as yellow solid product.
