Reaction Steps

(4-Trifluoromethyl-phenoxy)-(3-trifluoromethyl-phenyl)-acetaldehyde, 124 (0.02 mol) was dissolved in isopropanol (20 mL) and sodium borohydride (0.02 mol) was added. The progress of the reaction was monitored by TLC. When the reaction was complete, water and ether were added. The organic phase was dried and concentrated, and the residue was chromatographed to afford the title compound 125. 1H-NMR (DMSO, 400MHz): δ 7.75-7.24 (m, 8H), 5.59 (μs, 1H), 5.22 (m, 1H), 3.70 (m, 2H).
