The biphenyl (0.235 mg, 1.0 equiv) was dissolved in CCl4 (5 mL), NBS added, and the solution was irradiated until starting material was consumed. The mixture was allowed to cool to room temperature and then filtered through celite. The filtrate was concentrated and the residue purified by column chromatography (SiO2, hexane) to give the desired product (0.258 g, 60%).
