A solution of ((7S,8S)-7-(but-1-enyl)-1,4-dioxa-spiro[4.5]dec-8-yl)-carbamate (7.7 g, 0.0221 mol) in 80 mL of MeOH was treated with 1.5 g of 10% Pd/C and hydrogenated overnight at 55 psi. The mixture was filtered through Celite and concentrated on a rotary evaporator to give 4.3 g of (7R,8S)-7-(butyl)-8-(amino)-1,4-dioxa-spiro[4.5]decane. This was used without further purification.
