Bromotrimethylsilane (1.70 mL, 13.1 mmol) was added to a stirred, 0° C. mixture of (diethoxyphosphoryl)methyl 2-butyl-4-chloro-1-{[2′-(1H-tetrazol-5-yl)biphenyl-4-yl]methyl}-1H-imidazole-5-carboxylate (3.49 g, 5.95 mmol) in acetonitrile and the mixture was stirred at room temperature for 1 hour. Methanol (20 mL) was added, stirred for 30 minutes then concentrated in vacuo to afford the title compound as crude, which was used in the subsequent step without further purification. LC-MS: m/z 531.0 (M+H).
